Tip Your Cup
Sometimes God's greatest lessons are learned from our children. They can be the brightest of lights. My son has taught me so many things along the way in just the short 4 1/2 years he has been with us. Let me tell you about the most recent lesson he has taught me.
Typically, when we leave for our commute, I pour a cup of milk for Noel. We use the kind of cup with a cover and a straw to try to prevent leaks and spills in the car. This morning, on our drive to church, he was having trouble getting the very last drops milk. The straw just wasn't making it all available for him to finish. So, I explained to him that he wouldn't be able to get the rest of the milk unless he changed his approach to drinking it. If he would just tip is cup, the rest of the milk would be made available to him.
Then it hit me, isn't that just so true of God's love and grace? If we just tip our cup, soften our hearts, seek his presence, we are then able to receive his love, forgiveness and grace. He is always seeking us it is our Father's greatest desire for us to draw near.
In 2 Chronicals 7:14 "and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land".
Let us draw near, lean in and become the people He wants so much for us to be.
What is it like to draw near? To seek the Father? Well, it can be as simple as a prayer. It can be as simple as rejoicing in His presence. But the best part of it all, the part that will bring you so close to the Father, is surrender. Once you submit yourself, your life, to our Mighty Father, the Devil flees from you and you are closer to the Father in everything. It is no lie for it is written in James 4: 7-8 "Therefore, submit to God. But resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you."
If you have not found our Father, he is not far. He will make Himself known to you. Do not fear and take one small step toward Him. Request His presence in your life and draw near to Him in prayer. It could be the choice that changes your life. Tip your cup and may your cup be filled.
